    hi siuming,
Hong Kong Weather can be downloaded from App Store if you have Firmware 2.0+ (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=286262858&mt=8)

Feel free to try and send me comment.

Hello Jeffery, I appreciate very much your effort in creating this wonderful app for us.

Recently I had a problem in using the app which suddenly does not work in my phone. When I launch the app, a black screen appear and hold for a while, then return to the Springboard. Since I am using a Jailbreaked phone, I captured the syslog of the HKWeather dying which listed below. Would you please figure out what’s wrong with the app in my iphone? If you wish, I could also send you a copy of the crash report. Thanks in advance.

BTW, would you consider to release the software in open source license? e.g GNU etc.

It is because of a bug of QuickGold. You can check the developer forum about that issue. And the developer said he already fixed that in his developing build and hopefully user will get that in next release. Few user of HK Weather reported that uninstall QuickGold will make the HK Weather work again.

I see. Let me check it out. Thank you.

Hi, it is a very good app for HK ppl, I have some comments, see if u’d consider about them, keep the fun work!

    1. is it auto update from the HKO? If yes, is it possible to add the update time interval or even update manually?

    2. is it possible not to update the future 7 days information? instead, just have the update of current weather?

    Thanks for the good app!

  • Jeffery Wong said on October 12, 2008

    1. HKO updates different information with different time interval. Some data update every hr, some data update few time per day, some update when needed. Data in HKO is presented in many separated pages. Currently the HK Weather server will periodically capture the data from HKO. Parse the data from those pages and prepare a optimized single package for the HK Weather iPhone Client.
It is possible to add update time interval or manual update. Will consider add “Update at Startup? Yes/No”.

    2. Implement this option will make the data transfer reduced from 3.5KB to 2.xKB each refresh. It will not speed up the refresh speed because most of the time we are waiting for the setup of connection, not the time to transfer the data.
Also, it require additional UI elements, button to set the options and label to show 2 different updated time. I guess this option will not available unless the information of the app become huge and have significant different when turning off some data segment.

Thank you for your suggestion and your support.
